The Institute for Politics and Society is holding a debate called Transfer of Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem

US President Donald Trump acknowledged Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel in December last year and also announced the May transfer of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to this city. It has stirred up a stormy global debate about whether these decisions are right or not. Czech diplomacy faces a decision whether to follow the steps of Americans or EU partners who are reluctant or reluctant to move ambassadors. While President Milos Zeman is for the moving the Czech Embassy, the government, headed by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, is not so certain.

Does it make sense to move the embassies to raise the already high tension between the Israelis and the Palestinians? Should the Czech Republic – in the light of traditionally very friendly Allied relations with Israel – follow the United States or should not be in a hurry?

Whatever we decide, the expert and public discussions should take place on this subject. This is where we will try to support and initiate this action.

The debate will be held on 16th of April 2018 and begins at 17:00 in Schebek Palace, Politických vězňů 7, Prague.
