The Institute for Politics and Society organizes a business breakfast called Uber vs. Taxi - What should be the rules for taxiservices?

Platforms such as Uber, Taxify, or American competitor Lyft, open the passenger transport market for other than licensed taxi drivers. This, unlike traditional providers, increases competition and pushes for price and quality of service. They give ordinary people the opportunity to make money as a driver and, above all, their customers offer a cheaper alternative to a classic taxi. At this key point, however, Uber et al. hits existing Czech legislation. In addition, they are primarily faced with charges of non-payment of taxes.

How did they resolve to regulate Uber and other platforms, including their taxation in Slovakia and Estonia? What are the minimum requirements for security and insurance? And how should the Czech rules look to protect consumers and not close the market to competition?

Speakers are:

Kalle Palling, Member of Estonian Parliament, Reform Party

Ondřej Malý, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade for the Internetization of the Czech Republic

Mateusz Litewski, Manager for Central & Eastern Europe, Uber Technologies

Martin Kolovratník, Member of Czech Parliament, Chairman of Subcommittee on Transportation

The business breakfast will be moderated by Jan Klesla, Commentator, Lidové noviny.

The working language of the business breakfast is English.

The breakfast is by invitation only.
