The Institute for Politics and Society is holding a debate called Parks in the City. The debate will be held in Czech.

Parks are an essential element in every city, as the urban environment allows for direct contact with nature. Parks are also important for the community and in fact constitute a space for cultural, educational and sporting activities. Parks significantly improve the quality of life in the city. The New Metropolitan Plan, outlines the intended objective of ensuring that everyone can get into the park within 15 minutes.

How can this be achieved in practice? What is the difference between the park and the urban jungle in the free area? Prague is one of the greenest cities in Europe, but does it have plenty of parks? What are the underlying threats to Prague’s green areas?

These important questions will be discussed by:

Jiří Sádlo, Naturalist and Biologist

Martina Forejtová, garden and landscape architect

Radovan Haluzík, social anthropologist

Štěpán Špoula, Landscape architect

Michal Tošovský, co-author of Přístav 18600

This debate will be moderated by Osamu Okamura, an architect and program director of reSITE. The debate will be held in Czech and will take place on May 12, 2016 from 17:00 at Přístavu 18600, Rohanský ostrov 33, 186 00 Praha.
