The potential to play an integral role in bridging the divide between academic research and practical policy decisions was precisely what attracted me to an internship with the Institute for Politics and Society as a policy intern. I was able to put my strong research skills gained during my academic career to use while having my work matter more than it could in a solely academic bubble. Working with the Institute granted me the opportunity to make an impact through such varied functions as assisting with an international conference, the Multiple Challenges for Transatlantic Partnerships 2020, and writing policy papers about diverse topics, such as women’s participation in the labor force or foreign relations. The Institute provides its trainees with a wonderful amount of autonomy and responsibility that is perfect for anyone looking to gain insight into the inner workings of a think-tank and contribute to the Institute’s mission of sharing knowledge. I am so grateful to those at the Institute for Politics and Society who made my internship meaningful and rewarding.
