Georgians are fighting for a better future. Tens of thousands of Georgians gather in the streets of cities across the country every day and night to express their dissatisfaction with the steps taken by the government’s Georgian Dream. The old-new prime minister postponed accession talks with the European Union until the end of 2028. According to the president and the opposition, the party won the October elections illegally and therefore refuses to recognize the results. Foreign organizations and agencies have also expressed doubts. The protests in the country are being criticized by the international community primarily because of the police brutality when intervening against the people.

Main Points:

• Georgia has held parliamentary elections in which the Georgian Dream Party, now heavily inspired by Russia, won. According to the opposition, the vote was rigged, and foreign organizations operating in the EU and the US also had doubts.
• The ruling Georgian Dream Party has suspended accession negotiations with the EU until the end of 2028. Tens of thousands of people are protesting in the streets of cities. Police units are facing criticism for their brutal behavior against demonstrators.
• The president and the opposition demand the October elections be annulled and new ones be called. They are looking for support mainly from their European partners.
