After a month of rising tensions in Jerusalem, violence erupted, and Israel entered into yet another war with Palestinians. After 11 days of fighting, at least 240 people have been killed. Most of those deaths have been Palestinians in the territory of the Gaza Strip. Last week, a ceasefire was finally agreed upon between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Both Israel and Hamas claimed victory. However, the conflict has gone on for decades and doesn't seem to end anytime soon.
What were the causes of the recent escalation? What are the views of other key stakeholders in the region? Who benefits from the crisis? Is there a long-term solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?
