New era of urbanism in Ostrava

Every year, we organize dozens of different events across the Czech Republic, through which we regularly open the most interesting and pressing social issues. We combine leading policies with experts from around the world, representatives of the most successful companies and professional public. Institute for Politics and Society in cooperation with the Statutory city of Ostrava organize a public debate on New era of urbanism in Ostrava.

The term black Ostrava has recently lost its significance, since one of the most industrialized cities in Central Europe has begun considerably change its face to the astonishment of its citizens and visitors. A change for the better is obvious, but there is always something to improve and it is certainly not surprising that there are a large number of civic initiatives in the city trying to improve the living standards of the people from Ostrava. Their priorities include improving of the environment, revitalizing abandoned buildings, organizing a cultural events or reducing the exodus of young Ostravian people to other cities in Czech Republic.

What is behind the surprisingly rapid transformation of Ostrava? Is the current pace of successful implementation sufficient or could be done more? Can the city deepen cooperation between politicians, officials and active citizens? Can further city development stop the exodus of young people to other regions of the Czech Republic?

You may think you are not concerned about it, but almost everyone has ever criticized the air quality or the construction of some modern buildings in the city. Urbanism should therefore be the object of interest to each one of us and we should not be indifferent to where the new territorial plan and the development of public space in Ostrava are heading.
