Alan Pastuščak
As a final year undergraduate student at the university, I was allowed to apply my acquired knowledge and skills at the Institute for Politics and Society, to which I would like to express my gratitude for such a precious opportunity. I have never been exposed to work requirements at a similar level in the past, hence it is also very valuable for me in terms of adapting to a completely new work environment, methodology, and work dynamics. Many thanks to my colleagues for their warm approach, perfect communication, and feedback on my performance. With the institute, I participated in an international conference on the topic of Multiple Challenges for Transatlantic Partnerships and thus had the opportunity to successfully invite a visiting American researcher from our faculty to participate as a speaker in one of the discussed panels. I also helped colleagues with smaller tasks, such as creating and sharing presentations of conference speakers and moderators on social media, where I could practice some of the basic graphic design for Facebook. During the internship, I also prepared two text documents in English, which, in their character, fully corresponded to the knowledge and outlook that I acquired and could acquire during my studies. Of course, I was also working on some ordinary tasks within the institute, such as reports, translations, or creating and editing annotations. Above all, I am very grateful to the director, Šárka Shoup, who allowed me to express myself in the analytical field and to work on a topic for the institute regarding the comparison of the fiscal balance of migrants and local citizens of OECD countries based on the relevant research of the mentioned organization. The required content of this analysis allowed me to work with data, graphs, numbers, and parameters in general that were never part of my daily study duties at the university in our program. I have only positive impressions from working with analyst Pavlína Soukupová and I want to thank her for a very pleasant leadership and cooperation. For me, this is the most valuable part of this internship. I can highly recommend an internship at this institute to anyone interested in international relations, current affairs, economics, social issues, and many other relevant fields. The great advantage of the institute is that it has a really broad scope on many topics, which requires an equally broad perspective. I am also grateful for the time flexibility, where you can even choose specific days and time ranges of the week within which you will work. Among other things, I also gained more self-confidence in completing assigned tasks.
