I would recommend an internship at the Institute for Politics and Society to anyone looking for an opportunity to be actively and fully engaged in a policy think-tank environment and would like to kick-start a career in international relations.
During my 3-month internship I had the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience and develop professionally within the knowledge of Czech or European politics and gain insight into global social and societal developments. As far as the workload is concerned, since I was primarily working in the project team, my priority activities included matters related to the organisation of conferences, discussions and working breakfasts. Writing annotations on diverse foreign, security or social policy topics, cooperation on a policy paper on the French presidential election and compiling research were significant opportunities for me in the progression of analytical and critical thinking. Through the Institute, I also had the opportunity to attend a conference on the future of Europe at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
However, above all I would like to highlight the very pleasant working environment and the friendly team of brilliant and inspiring people that you can be part of. My mentor Kristina Majerčíková was extremely helpful and supportive throughout my internship and I was able to learn a lot from her. The Institute for Politics and Society is therefore a good choice in terms of professional as well as personal growth.
