As a student of a master´s program in Political Science and Turkish studies, I decided to get some practical experiences in my subject of study and find an internship. From the offered internships, I chose the analytical team of the Institute for Politics and Society.
The main content of my four-months internship was an analysis of a pre-election program for ANO, the political party which is a partner of the Institute. This work taught me how to find this type of information and how to work with the websites of Czech political institutions. Because I am interested in the political situation in the Middle East, especially in Turkey, my second main task was writing the policy paper about the events around Turkey´s failed coup d´état in summer 2016. Work on this task was really enriching academically.
Besides these, I participated in a range of projects which was arranged by the Institute. I made monitoring of pre-election preferences before the presidential elections in France, and of domestic and foreign affairs concerning the migration crises. Then I helped with the organization of debate “Who will be the next French president?” and “The man who defeated Facebook!”. From the latter event, I also wrote the final report. Furthermore, I could attend the business breakfasts with experts on migration and sharing economy. Besides this, I helped the Institute with English-Czech translations of foreign speaker profiles, proofreading of Czech texts, updating of videos from events in the Institute´s YouTube channel and so on.
For sure, this internship gave me a lot of experience in the field of my study, both academically and professionally, and enabled me to gain insight into the day-to-day work of political think-tanks as one of the places where students of political science can put their theoretical knowledge into effect. Apart from the pleasant atmosphere, which is typical for the Institute, the possibility of time management was a big advantage of this internship, because the time flexibility enabled me to harmonize the internship with my duties in the university.
Internship: 1. 4. 2017 – 31. 7. 2017
